LET'S LISTEN TO THE SEA
In the Galápagos, sound is also life. Beneath the surface, fish, turtles, sea lions, and many other species depend on sound to communicate, orient themselves, feed, and survive. However, our daily activities—maritime transport, engines, construction—generate a type of pollution that we don’t always see, but that is there nonetheless: anthropogenic noise.
“Let’s Listen to the Sea” was born as an environmental education campaign driven by the Galápagos Acoustic Office (OAG), with the goal of raising awareness of this problem and promoting real changes in the way we interact with the marine and coastal environment.
Through science, communication, and concrete actions, we seek to raise awareness among both residents and visitors: every decision matters, and every sound we emit also has an impact underwater.
As part of this initiative, we developed a symbolic piece that connects the message to everyday life: the campaign’s official socks. More than just an object, they are a constant reminder that our actions resonate throughout the ecosystem. These will not be available for sale, but will be given free of charge to those who actively participate in the campaign.
This effort is made possible thanks to funding from the Galapagos Life Fund (GLF) and the collaboration with Patas Azules, a brand that embodies identity and commitment to the islands.
Listen to the Sea is not just a campaign. It’s an invitation.
To observe, to reflect, and above all, to act.
Because protecting Galapagos also means learning to listen.
